According to Coco Chanel, “Fashion Changes, but Style Endures.” This still holds true decades later.
The thing about Style is that it is extremely personal. It evolves over time, but one thing always stays the same, you. With Fashion, it changes from season to season, and is always trying to find what’s new and exciting. With style, you can always express yourself through fashion, but it doesn’t matter if a trend goes in or out, it can still be your style.
Fashion is a huge influence in our world. We are constantly seeing new trends (and old) surfacing and giving us more and more layers to choose from. What is cool about style is that you can take the things you see in fashion and make them your own at any time. As the seasons change, it is a great new opportunity to evolve your style and take the things that inspire you and incorporate them to fit your personal style.
My mission is to take that same concept as it relates to personal style and to translate that into your space as well. Your home is a reflection of your style, and what better way to create a full circle experience than to take the things you love from fashion and add specks of that int your space.
Style is about you. Fashion is about them. Fashion can be about fitting in. Style is about standing out. What I love about style is that there are no rules. You can mix and match to a formula that fits you and works for you, regardless of what is “in fashion.” To nail your style is simply to take what makes you feel the best about you and do your thing. Fashion changes in an instant, and just because something is deemed fashionable, it doesn’t mean that you need to embrace it.
Another thing to think about is that you can use fashion to highlight your style. It’s fun to mix and match trends, and combine them with things that you feel are classically you.
For me, I like to think of my style and classic and relaxed. But I also love color and pattern. Over the last few years, I have really embraced a little more of a subdued style. I love mixing colors and patterns, but now I can really appreciate doing so in more subtle ways and leaning on texture and metallics to add that flair. That’s the beauty of style, it evolves with you.
In my home, I have lived this, too. It may look simple, but there are lots of very subtle contrasts and layers that I just love.
The moral of the story is to have fun with your style and embrace the things that make you feel like you, regardless of what may or not be fashionable at the moment. Being true to you is the most beautiful thing you can be….
