The Fall Edit: Everything I’m Loving Right Now

The Fall Edit: Everything I’m Loving Right Now

Fall always makes me want to change everything.

Not necessarily in a full room makeover or brand new wardrobe kind of way. It is more that suddenly I want richer colors, better layers, darker woods, great texture and a few new things that make everything I already own feel a little more interesting.

So instead of my usual favorites, I thought it would be fun to share what is actually on my wishlist right now. Some are things I am seriously considering, some are trends I cannot stop noticing, and a few are firmly in the do I need this? absolutely not category.

Basically, these are the 14 things currently living rent free in my head.

01. The Chocolate Suede Bag

I apparently cannot resist anything chocolate brown right now, and adding suede only makes it worse. I love the relaxed shape of this one and how instantly fall it feels without being something I could only carry for a few weeks out of the year. I can already picture it with jeans, sweaters, olive green and basically everything else on this list.

02. The Leopard Flats

I have said it before and I will continue saying it: leopard is a neutral. These feel like such an easy way to make a basic outfit more interesting. Jeans and a sweater, black pants and a button down, even something a little dressier. They do all the work.

And the dark leopard suede? Very fall.

03. The Chocolate Plum Sweater

Apparently we are continuing the brown theme.

I love that this color is not quite brown and not quite plum. It has just enough depth to feel interesting while still functioning like a neutral. The oversized boyfriend shape also makes this exactly the kind of sweater I want to throw on constantly once the temperature drops.

04. The Plaid Shirt

There is always room for plaid in fall, but I do not necessarily want it to feel like a traditional flannel. I love the proportions of this cropped Pilcro version. It gives you the cozy fall plaid moment but feels a little more current.

I would wear this open over a tee, buttoned with higher waisted pants or layered under a jacket once it gets colder.

05. The Olive Barrel Pants

I originally thought I needed a great pair of jeans on this list, but these are so much more interesting.

I love olive green for fall because it gives you color without really feeling like color. And the relaxed barrel shape makes these feel current without being too precious. I can see them with sneakers, leopard flats, a chunky sweater or a simple white tee and jacket.

06. The Blue Enamel Lamp

This might be one of my favorite things on the entire list.

The powder blue is unexpected for fall, which is probably exactly why I like it. I love mixing cooler colors into all of the browns, woods and warmer tones that naturally show up this time of year. And that scalloped edge is such a good little detail.

This is the kind of piece that can make an entire corner feel more interesting without actually changing very much.

07. The Marble Checkerboard Bookends

I almost went with something in burl wood here, but then I saw these.

Checkerboard. Marble. Black and cream. Done.

They feel classic and graphic at the same time, and I love that they are functional but still look like a decorative object. These would be so good on a bookshelf, console or built ins mixed with books, art and collected pieces.

08. The Woven Throw

This is my version of fall decorating.

Give me something with texture, a great pattern and colors that work with the rest of my house instead of something covered in leaves and pumpkins. I love that this Barbour and Anthropologie throw feels cozy and seasonal without screaming FALL.

Throw it over the back of a sofa and suddenly the whole room feels a little more ready for cooler weather.

09. The Moody Floral Pillow

This pattern is SO good.

The oversized floral feels romantic and slightly old world, but the darker background keeps it from becoming too sweet. I love pieces like this because one pillow can introduce a whole palette into a room without requiring you to redo anything else.

It is basically fall without the fall print, which is always my preference.

10. The Collar Necklace

I love a necklace that can completely change a simple outfit, and this one does exactly that.

The rigid collar shape feels a little unexpected, and I love the single crystal hanging from the center. Put it with a basic sweater or simple neckline and suddenly the whole outfit feels intentional.

This is one of those pieces that does not need much else around it.

11. The Fall Lip

There is something about fall that makes me want to put away the super light pinks and reach for something a little richer.

The YSL Loveshine Lip Oil Stick gives you that glossy, easy look I love while still giving you actual color. It feels like a nice middle ground between a lipstick and a gloss, and also just happens to look very pretty sitting in your bag.

Sometimes that matters too.

12. The Polka Dot Sneakers

These are FUN.

I already love the New Balance 530, but the polka dots take a sneaker I would wear anyway and make it so much more interesting. I love the idea of wearing these with an otherwise simple outfit and letting the shoes be the unexpected part.

Apparently I have a thing for putting pattern where you do not expect it. Who knew?

13. The Pumpkin Candle

Okay, apparently I do have room for one pumpkin thing.

Capri Blue Pumpkin Dulce is exactly the kind of fall scent I want when the weather finally starts changing. It has notes of white pumpkin, gingersnap, nutmeg and whipped vanilla, so it gives you that cozy fall feeling without requiring an actual pumpkin to be printed on anything.

And the mercury glass vessel is pretty enough to leave sitting out.

14. The Completely Unnecessary Leather Cape

And finally, we have arrived at the wildcard.

Do I need a leather cape? Absolutely not.

Have I been thinking about this leather cape way more than any reasonable person should? Absolutely yes.

Where exactly am I wearing it? Unclear.

But apparently, in my imaginary fall life, I am a person who casually throws on a dramatic leather cape and heads out the door looking effortlessly chic.

Will reality involve me standing in my closet wondering whether I have anywhere appropriate to wear a leather cape? Probably.

Do I still want it? Unfortunately, yes.

So Apparently This Is My Fall Mood

Looking at everything together, my fall formula is pretty obvious: rich color, great pattern, interesting texture and something a little unexpected.

Chocolate brown. Olive green. Plaid. Leopard. Moody florals. Marble. Suede. And, apparently, a leather cape.

Honestly, that is pretty much how I like to decorate too. I would rather add a few really good details than change everything just because a new season rolled around.

Now the only question is which things actually make it off the wishlist and into my house or closet.

And yes, I am still thinking about the cape.
